Happy Thursday!
Here is what we did today:
Math: Today in Math we discussed dividing with remainders and divisibility rules for 2, 5 and 10. Problem set 22 was assigned and is due on Friday.
Science/Health: We read lesson six together and discussed resolving conflicts. We will be taking our health chapter 1 test on Friday of next week!
Social Studies: Today we discussed lesson three dealing with climate and vegetation. They read pages 33 and 34 in class.
In Mrs. D's class we read chapters 15 in The City of Ember and we will have a quiz over the vocabulary so far on Friday. We also had a comprehension sheet and we also worked on an activity dealing with the colesseum games. We turned in our spelling books today and we will have our final test on Friday. We worked on our final copies of our My Summer Vacation Stories.
In Mr. H's class we read pages 149-168 in the Wish Giver. We did some SRA practice reading today and we also did a paragraph correction sheet in class. We checked our workbook pages today and our final test is Friday.
In Mr. P's class we have our spelling test on Friday and workbook pages are also due. In reading we discussed realistic fiction and we re-read LaBamba together for fluency to get ready for our vocab test tomorrow. We wrote in our journals and they should all be ready to publish their papers tomorrow. We went over action verbs in class and there is a worksheet to complete over this skill.

Happy Wednesday!
Here is what we did today:
Math: Today in math we worked on some problem solving strategies
Science/Health: We took a "pop" vocab quiz and we discussed lesson six on resolving conflicts. We have an assignment on vocabulary.
Social Studies: We discussed pages 28-32 the terms on bodies of water. We are having very good discussions with our classes. We are also discussing current events and having great discussions.
**We all took the nonfiction reading pretest in our classes today.
In Mrs. D's class we read chapter 14 in The City of Ember we are really enjoying this book. The students had some comprehension questions to answer and they also had to work on predictions for what will happen next in the book the book. We also worked on our final drafts for our first complete essay. The completed essay and other planning aides are due on Friday in the writing folder. Spelling workbook pages are due tomorrow and the final test will be on Friday.
In Mr. H's room we have spelling workbook pages that are due tomorrow. We read pages 140-149 in The Wish Giver. We also had a writing prompt to do in class.
In Mr. P's room we practiced summarizing LaBamba and the students were given an activity to complete on their own. We also discussed realistic fiction. We took our second spelling test for the week and the workbook is due on Friday. We also practiced action verbs in class as well.

Happy Tuesday!
Here is what we did today:
Math: Today in class we discussed division facts and how we need to make sure that we know our multiplication facts. Problem set 19 was assigned and is due on Wednesday.
Science/ Health: Today we finished our charts on dealing with uncomfortable feelings. We also previewed lesson six.
Social Studies: Today we read pages 28-32 dealing with bodies of water and terms associated with these.
In Mrs. D's class we worked with partners revising our summer writing papers. Pages 14-17 in the spelling workbook are due on Thursday. Our final test will be on Friday. In reading we read chapter 13 in The City of Ember and we also had comprehension questions to answer.
In Mr. H's class we read pages 103-120 in The Wish Giver. We also had a written quiz over the previous reading. We took a pretest over unit 2 in spelling. Workbook pages 14-16 are due on Thursday. We will have our final test on Friday. We also did a short writing activity in class.
In Mr. P's class we read the story LaBamba from our textbooks and we answered the comprehension questions at the end of the story and had a class debate. Happy Monday!
Here is what we did today:
Math: We discussed problem solving strategies using the strategy of making a table. We also discussed multiplying multiple numbers and missing numbers in multiplication. Problem set 18 was assigned and is due on Tuesday.
Science/Health. We discussed dealing with misunderstood feelings and we started to complete a chart together
Social Studies: Today we discussed chapter 1 lesson 2 discussing bodies of water. Pages 26 and 27 were covered.
In Mrs. D's class we read chapters 12 in The City of Ember and we had an activity on cause and effect to do. . We had a spelling pretest over unit 2 words and we went to the computer lab. We will peer edit our papers on Tuesday.
In Mr. P's class we finished plural possessive nouns. We began vocabulary and began reading LaBamba our next story in the book. We edited papers in groups and we will publish them on Wednesday. We took our spelling unit 2 pretest and pages 14-18 were assigned and are due on Friday.

Happy Friday!
Here is what we did today:
Math: We discussed problem solving strategies using estimation. We also discussed multiplying two digit numbers by one digit numbers. BOB 17 on page 639, questions 1-16 was assigned and is due on Monday.
Science/Health. We discussed the voabulary from the first four lessons and we read lesson 4. We also had a worksheet dealing with the vocabulary.
Social Studies: We had a vocabulary quiz over the vocab from the first chapter. The students used their notes to complete this quiz. We also did a US trivia activity.
In Mrs. D's class we read chapters 10 and 11 in The City of Ember and we had comprehension questions to do. We also had a fact and opinion activity to complete and we wrote in our journals answering some deep thought questions. We also worked on finishing our rough drafts of our Summer Vacation papers so that we can edit on Monday.
In Mr. P's class we discussed plural possessive nouns we also did a paper on singular and plural possessive nouns. We also worked on editing our room papers and we will hopefully be able to publish next week.
In Mr. H's class we read pages 92-110 in the Wish Giver. We did a writing activity dealing with our story and we also had a paragraph correction sheet to complete.

Math: Today in Math we had our first official problem set. We discussed vocabulary and properties of multiplication. Problem set 15 was assigned and is due on Friday.
Science/Health: We learned about friends and family. We had a drawing conclusions sheet to do as homework.
Social Studies: Today we discussed terms and we began chapter 1 pages 18-23.
In Mrs. D's class we read chapters 8 and 9 in The City of Ember and we took a quiz over the vocabulary so far. We also had a comprehension sheet and we worked on breaking the code. We turned in our spelling books today and we will have our final test on Friday. We worked on our rough draft of our My Summer Vacation Stories.
In Mr. H's class we read pages 75-90 in the Wish Giver. We also had a quiz over what we have read so far. For spelling g we went over pages 8-10 and then we studied for tomorrow's test. We also had a paragraph correction sheet.
In Mr. P's class we discussed the end of the story questions from the Michelle Kwan story. We had a great discussion. In spelling we did page 11. We will have our final test tomorrow. We also had a worksheet on common and proper nouns and singular and possessive nouns. The students need to be ready to edit their room papers tomorrow in class.

Happy Wednesday!
Here is what we did today:
Math: Today in math we worked on some problem solving vocabulary and we worked on a few problems. We also listened to the story "The Math Curse" and the students are to write their own addition to the story. This is due on Friday.
Science/Health: We discussed setting goals and we each made up four goals. Mr. H's class also has a paragraph on "Why is it important to have your needs before your wants?"
Social Studies: We discussed the terms that we will be using in social studies this year from page 18 and 19 in our books.
In Mrs. D's class we read chapter 7 in The City of Ember we are really enjoying this book. The students had some comprehension questions to answer and they also had to try and decipher a message from the book. We also wrote in our journals and we began our first prewriting activity for our first complete essay. Ask your child what they are writing about for this essay. Spelling workbook pages are due tomorrow and the final test will be on Friday.

Math: Some students continued to test to see where they should be placed. Other students worked on review topics of place value, rounding and addition of decimals.
Science: We worked on "Hero: How to improve my self-concept" papers.
Social Studies: We worked on vocabulary and we read pages 2-5 in our social studies book. Pages 6-10 should be read on their own to discuss tomorrow.
In Mrs. D's class we read chapters 5 and 6 in The City of Ember. We had some comprehension questions to answer. We will have a vocabulary quiz on Thursday over the words we have learned so far. Spelling pages 8-11 were assigned and are due on Thursday. Bonus speller should do page 13 and study those words. We also worked on prewriting our first essay.
In Mr. H's class we read the Wishgiver through page 62. We took our spelling pretest and the workbook pages are due on Thursday. We also did some journal writing.

Math: The students have been very patient as we test to see where we should begin in the math book for this year. We have some very bright students. The students also worked on a multiplication sheet when they finished with their test. Most of them finished this in class.
Science/Health: We read lesson 1 in health on self concept and we discussed the topics as we read.
Social Studies: We wrote an essay on what our expectations are for social studies. We also read pages 2 - 5 in their textbook.
In Mrs. D's class we read chapters 3 and 4 from The City of Ember. We completed a story map and we answered comprehension questions. We also took a spelling pretest over unit one. We worked on Writer's Express book activity. We are trying to get acquainted with this great book.
In Mr. H's class we read pages 32-52 in the Wishgiver. We previewed our spelling and will take a pretest tomorrow. We also did a paragraph correction sheet. We also wrote about our school year so far.

Happy Friday!
We have completed out first Friday of the year. We have a lot of great kids in our classes! We are enjoying getting to know them.
Today we did our first official switches of the year. Here is what we did in our classes today:
Math: We took a pretest over skills that we will be working on. Mrs. D will use these tests to determine where we will begin this year.
Science: We did a fun direction quiz that the students really enjoyed.
Social Studies: We had an introduction about social studies. We also discussed current events.
In Mrs. D's class we also read Chapter 2 in The City of Ember. This is a fabulous book and we are doing activities along with the book. The students have a comprehension sheet and a story map to complete. Most completed this in class. It is due on Monday. We also wrote in our journals and introduced the spelling words for next week.
In Mr. H's class we are reading The Wish Giver. This is a great book and we are having some great discussions.
In Mr. P's class we worked on a descriptive paragraph. If this was not completed please finish it this weekend along with your picture. We will begin reading on Monday.

Happy first day of 5th grade at Riverside Intermediate!
We are so excited to start this exciting new adventure.
We hope your student had a great first day. We spent a lot of time getting to know each other and working on learning the procedures of this school and classroom. We learned about some fun incentive programs that are going to be offered this year as well.
