5th grade Teamwork

Happy Holidays!

We are glad it is Friday and so are the kids.

We took a Science Test today, a spelling test today and we worked on various other holiday activities. We had one of our allowed parties today and the kids were great! We hope you all have a great holiday! We will see you in 2007!

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we worked on a group project dealing with Christmas called Math Libs.

Science: Today we went over our review sheet for our test tomorrow and we played a review game. Be ready for the test tomorrow.

Social Studies: Today we finished our discussion on Washington DC. We have had some great discussions while making our way around our nation's capital.

In Mrs. D's class we went to the library. We turned in our spelling books and we worked on a spelling activity. Test tomorrow. We also continued to read in Chicken Soup for the Kid's Soul and writing as well.

In Mr. H's class we finished the book Stone Fox. We turned in our spelling books and we drew pictures of 10 words as well. We went to the library and we completed a creative writing activity.

In Mr. P's class we went to the library. We finished reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. We did some Holiday trivia. Spelling books are due tomorrow.

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we worked on reading centimeter rulers. Problem set 66 was assigned and is due on Thursday.

Science: Today we worked on our review sheet and the test has been postponed until on Friday.

Social Studies: Today we continued our journal through Washington D.C. We have now approached Mt. Vernon.

In Mrs. D's class we took the math benchmark test today. We worked on our spelling books and did another spelling activity. We read some items from Chicken Soup for the Soul. Spelling books are due tomorrow.

In Mr. H's class we took the math benchmark test today. We had a paragraph correction sheet. We read chapters 3, 4 and 5 in Stone Fox. Spelling books due tomorrow.

In Mr. P's class we took the math benchmark test today. We did spelling pictures that are due on Friday. We took our second spelling pretest. We read chapters 5 and 6 in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and we wrote in our journals.

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we did another review of skills previously taught and we also did an activity dealing with factors, multiples and following directions and also a group activity dealing with geometry.

Science: We discussed how organs worked together and we watched a video on cells. We will have a test on Thursday.

Social Studies: We continued our discussion on Washington DC.

In Mrs. D's class we took our Language Arts Benchmark test today. We also worked on reading comprehension skills dealing with prereading and during reading activities. We also worked on our spelling workbooks as well.

In Mr. H's class we began reading the story Stone Fox. The spelling workbook pages were assigned and are due on Thursday and we also took our spelling pretest. We also completed our Language Arts Benchmark test.

In Mr. P's class we took our language Arts Benchmark test today. We read chapters 3 and 4 in The Best Christmas Pageant ever. We went to the computer lab and we worked on our spelling sentences and we also journaled.

Here is what we did today:

We all took our 5th grade writing prompt today. This is a timed writing prompt that we take each quarter to see how the student's writing has improved.

We also watched the dress rehearsal for the Christmas musical presented by the drama club, the choir and the band.

In Mrs. D's class we took spelling pretest. We reviewed friendly letters and smilies and metaphors. We also reviewed verb tenses. We took a quiz over the end of Running Out of Time and projects are due on Friday.

In Mr. P's class we took our spelling pretest over unit 16 and assigned workbook pages 98-103 due on Friday. Spelling words five times each due tomorrow. We also worked on verb tenses and we read the first two chapters in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

In Mr. H's class we worked on spelling and the workbook pages are due on Thursday. We copied our words to prepare for the spelling pretest tomorrow. We reviewed friendly letters and we also continued to look at Washington DC.

Here is what we did today:

Math: We continued our review today looking at rounding and multiplication.

Science: We took a vocab quiz and we discussed the different types of cells and what cells can make up like tissues and organs.

Social Studies: We discussed Washington DC and we also continued discussing the What If's.

In Mrs. D's class we took our spelling test over unit 15. We discussed commonly misused verbs and how and when to use them. We also finished Running Out of Time and we were given projects to complete on the book by next Friday. We will also have a quiz over the book on Monday.

In Mr. H's class we discussed how to improve our friendly letter writing skills. We also looked in the old English textbook we looked at examples of friendly letters and answered questions about them. We then took our spelling test over unit 15 words.

In Mr. P's class we discussed commonly misused verbs and how to remember when to use which one. We did another persuasive letter. We took a spelling test over unit 15 as well.

*We had our final day of Explorations today as well.

Here is what we did today:

Math: We reviewed skills today that we have been working on this grading period. We had an in class assignment that will help Mrs. D see where we need help.

Science: Today we discussed chromosome and genes. We had a worksheet for homework of the different parts and functions of animals and plant cells along with a Venn Diagram. We will have a vocab test tomorrow.

Social Studies: Today we discussed current events. We also discussed the What if's of Jamestown and Plymouth colonies.

In Mrs. D's class we went to the library. We turned in our spelling workbooks and will have a test tomorrow. We discussed our letters from yesterday and some had to redo them if they were not written correctly. We also took a quiz over the chapters 16-20 in Running Out of Time. We also read two more chapters and will discuss them tomorrow.

In Mr. P's class we wrote a persuasive letter to the state convincing them to not cancel our art, p.e. and music programs. (This was just an activity it is not really true!) We also reviewed our adjectives worksheet and we are to find 20 things at home that we can name with an adjective's in front of them. Spelling workbooks, and spelling pictures are due tomorrow and we will have a spelling test today.

In Mr. H's class we worked a great deal today on writing friendly letters. We also read a story on page 544-549 in our reading textbooks. Spelling workbooks were due today. We will have a spelling test tomorrow.

Math: Today we took a test over items previously taught.

Science: We discussed animal cells and their parts. We then compared and contrasted the plant and animal cells. We will have a vocab test on Friday.

Social Studies: We look at the old textbook and compared the articles on Jamestown and Plymouth.

In Mrs. D's class we worked again on writing a correct friendly letter. We wrote a friendly letter to someone from our story Running Out of Time to persuade them to help the people in our story. Spelling book is due on Thursday.

In Mr. H's class we spent some time working on writing a correct friendly letter. We also spent some time catching up in social studies with this class. We also did some quiet reading today of books of our choice. We also had a paragraph correction sheet. Spelling workbooks due tomorrow.

In Mr. P's class we wrote a letter to mom and dad trying to persuade them to take us on a trip for Christmas vacation We worked on adjectives and we took a spelling pretest and completed spelling pictures.

We had Exploration classes today again!

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we worked on the metric system and converting numbers from one metric unit to another. Problem set 64 was assigned and is due on Wednesday.

Science: Today we reviewed our tests and we reviewed our vocab for the test on Friday. We then discussed the plants cells parts and functions.

Social Studies: We completed the end of the chapter 5 review on the Early Colonies.

In Mrs. D's class we read the next three chapters in Running Out of Time. We will have a quiz tomorrow over our reading. We got our pretests back and wrote the words missed three times each. Our spelling unit 15 workbook pages are due on Thursday.

In Mr. H's class we went to the library. We worked on letter writing skills. Our spelling book is due on Wednesday and we also took a spelling pretest.

In Mr. P's class we discussed generalizations and found ten from our story. We created our own spelling sentences and they are due tomorrow. We did a fun writing activity and we also went to the computer lab.

*We also had Explorations today!

Math: Today we discussed dealing with decimals and money. Problem set 64 was assigned and is due on Tuesday.

Science: We previewed the next chapter dealing with cells. We wrote our definitions for the words on page 35 and chose 4 pictures to draw.

Social Studies: We began to discuss the Plymouth Colony.

In Mrs. D's class we had our spelling pretest over unit 15. We read the next two chapters in Running Out of Time 16-17. We also went to the computer lab and the library.

In Mr. H's class we read from the textbook the story about Black Cowboys. We introduced the spelling words. We did a writing activity.

In Mr. P's class we wrote our spelling words five times each. Workbook pages 92-97 was assigned and is due on Friday. We took our first spelling pretest. We began to discuss adjectives. We also completed the writing activity. We also went to the library.

*This week is the Explorations week. Ask the kids where they went for Explorations today.

Here is what we did today:

Math: We did a review activity over multiplication facts and line designs.

Science: We took a test over vertebrates and invertebrates.

Social Studies: We discussed Jamestown. We looked at a DVD and discussed different aspects of Jamestown. It also had some video of Jamestown at Christmas.

In Mrs. D's room we took a spelling test and a test over chapters 11-15 in Running Out of Time. We had a visit from the Humane Society and we did an activity leading into a new book that we will soon be reading.

In Mr. H's room we had a conclusion activity based on the book that we just finished Shiloh Season. We took a spelling test and we had a visit from the Humane Society.

In Mr. P's room we had a review sheet on metaphors. We took our spelling test over unit 14. We had a visit from the Humane Society and we wrote in our journal. We had a vocab test over the Grizzly Bear Family.

Math: We discussed subtracting fractions from whole numbers greater then one and did some in class practice. Problem set 63 was assigned and is due on Friday.

Science: We reviewed for our science test using our review sheets. Spelling counts on tomorrow so they need to study.

Social Studies: We discussed Jamestown. We will continue this discussion tomorrow.

In Mrs. D's class we turned in our spelling books and we will have a test over unit 14 tomorrow. We went to the library and had a visit from Mrs. Kaufman. We worked on metaphors and we read chapters 13 and 14 in Running Out of Time.

In Mr. H's class we read from our textbooks the story A Boy Named Slow. We turned in our spelling workbook pages. We will have a test tomorrow over unit 14. We worked on smilies and metaphors in class as well. We also went to the library. We also continued to work on our persuasive writing!

In Mr. P's class We listened to the story Grizzly Bear Family. We completed the bear facts sheet in class. We wrote in our journals about what we would do with a million dollars. We worked on metaphors and Mrs. Kaufman came to talk with the class about caring and we went to the library. We will have a spelling test on Friday and our work books are also due

Math: Today we worked on subtracting fractions from whole numbers larger than one. We had a review sheet dealing with estimation and subtracting fractions.

Science: We did a review sheet in class and studied with partners for our test on Friday.

Social Studies: We completed chapter 6 test from the old textbook. We also had a reading assignment in the new textbook pages 156-159.

In Mrs. D's class we completed our persuasive letters about out Christmas party. We took a quiz over chapters 6-10 in Running Out of Time. We read chapters 11 and 12 in Running Out of Time and discussed it as well. Spelling workbooks are due tomorrow.

In Mr. H's class we read chapters 5 and 6 in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Spelling workbook pages are due tomorrow. We went to the computer lab. We also had a paragraph correcting sheet and a persuasive friendly letter.

In Mr. P's class we finished reading The Grizzly Bear Family. We completed spelling pictures today in class and we did another persuasive letter. We also worked on metaphors.

Science: We completed a worksheet on invertebrates and the other kingdoms. We will have a test on Friday.

Social Studies: We read and discussed chapter 6 in the old textbook. They will have a test over this information tomorrow.

In Mrs. D's class we worked on our spelling workbook for unit 14. We worked on the parts of a friendly letter. We are going to be writing a persuasive letter this week. We read chapters 9 and 10 in Running Out of Time. We will have a quiz tomorrow over chapters 6 - 10.

In Mr. H's class we read chapters 3 and 4 in the Best Christmas Pageant Ever. We had a paragraph correcting sheet. Spelling book was assigned pages 86-89 unit 14 and is due on Thursday. We went to the library.

In Mr. P's class we completed spelling sentences due tomorrow. We discussed metaphors and made our own. We read the first half of the Grizzly Bear Story. We went to the computer lab. We wrote a persuasive letter in class as well.

In Mr. H’s room we began reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever chapters 1 and 2. We had a paragraph correction sheet. Spelling workbook pages were assigned and are due on Thursday. Pretest tomorrow over unit 14.

In Mr. P’s room we completed our vocabulary for the Grizzly Bear Family Book. We discussed metaphors. We are going to write another persuasive letter. We took a spelling pretest, five times each is due tomorrow, and workbook pages 86-91 due on Friday. We also went to the library.
